Library Conduct Guidelines   Please help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable atmosphere for everyone. Behave in a manner that does not disturb others. Be respectful of library materials, computers and facilities.  No food allowed (bottled water only). Please clean up after yourself and put all trash in bins.  Quiet conversations are allowed except in silent study area.  Do not leave personal items unattended.  Only service animals are allowed in the library. Keep them under control at all times.  Use of district-owned computers and network must conform to the district computer use policy.

 Library General Guidelines

  1. We ask that you switch off the ringer on your cell phone -- set it to vibrate, or turn off the phone altogether.
  2. No consuming food or drink in the library. You can have snacks and drinks in the lobby area, but leave them on the cart by the entrance when you're in the library itself.
  3. Please be respectful and courteous to all students or staff members in the library.
  4. Patrons must allow staff to search their belongings if they have set off the security alarm when attempting to exit or if staff have any reason to suspect they may have library items that were not properly checked out.
  5. Children are welcome with adult supervision.

Study Rooms

  1. Students will check out group study rooms at the Circulation Desk. To check out a group study room, you will need to have your Taft College Student ID (A numbers will not be accepted).
  2. Students may check out group study rooms for up to two consecutive hours once a day. Please have at least two of your group members present when you check out the group study room.
  3. No fewer than two persons may reserve a group study room. Unoccupied rooms or rooms with only a single individual will be cleared to make way for waiting groups.
  4. All group study rooms must be vacated 15 minutes before the library closes. As per Taft College Library policy, food is not allowed in our group study rooms. Bottled water is acceptable.
  5. Please keep voices to a normal level as these rooms are not sound-proof. Taft College Library staff reserves the right to have students removed if they violate the group study room rules.

Computer Use

  1. Library Computers may not be used to view websites that contain pornography, real or animated. Students in violation of this rule may be asked to leave the library.
  2. Students using computers for non-class related activities will be asked to relinquish their computer when students with class related assignments are waiting. It is expected that this will occur in a courteous manner.
  3. Students should not tamper with computer hardware or software, vandalize or destroy computer files or equipment.
  4. Library staff reserve the right to ask students and or public members to cease activities which are not appropriate in a research environment, which interfere with the research activities of others, or which deprive students of needed access to resources.

Library Card

  1. Members of the public will be issued a card after paying the appropriate fee. Official student ID's are free for the first card. When requesting a new ID card students will need to provide their A number. Student ID cards can be picked up in the Taft College bookstore.
  2. There are several different kinds of cards:
    • TC Students: No charge for first card; card does not expire.
    • TC Faculty: No charge for card; card does not expire.
    • Members of the public age 18 or older: $10.00 for one year or $2.00  for a one day pass.
    • Lost cards carry a $2.00 replacement charge for all categories. Members of the public younger than 18 are not eligible for a card, through they can still visit the library (with adult supervision).
  3. You will need your library card to check out materials. Students can checkout up to 10 items at a time, public can check out up to 3 items at a time.

Overdues

Overdue non reserve materials are assessed $0.25 for each day overdue. Until fine reaches the cost of the book. Reserve materials are assessed $1.00 per hour with a maximum fine of $24.00 plus the cost of the item.
