Research Assignment:

You will write a 7-8 page argumentative essay on any topic in American history since the end of Reconstruction in 1877. Dates to consider are from 1877 to present. You must also use the Taft College Library to find 3 to 4 sources -- books and/or scholarly articles. NOTE: You can use articles from web searches to find a contemporary source. All other sources found on the web are supplemental and can be used in addition to the scholarly source requirements.

Contemporary Source:

You must include at least one contemporary source (current or recent news article, etc.) to discuss social, political, or economic issues that relate to our society today. Publication dates should be within the last 5-10 years (not older than 2014).

Check out the Types of Sources guide for more details about primary and secondary sources.

Formatting:

Your paper is to follow the Chicago/Turabian Style and include a Bibliography.  Please see the Chicago/Turabian Style Guide tab on this page.

  • 1" margins all around
  • Times New Roman, size 12 font
  • Name and Date
