By familiarizing yourself with these elements, you can navigate the internet more efficiently, making informed decisions about the sources you choose to rely on for your research

Elements of a Webpage

  • The URL (Uniform Resource Locator) provides the web address of the page. The domain, such as .edu or .gov, can indicate the credibility and type of organization hosting the content.
  • Example: www.taftcollege.edu

  • The title of a webpage, displayed in the browser tab, gives a concise description of the page’s content or purpose, helping users quickly identify what the page is about.
  • The header of a webpage typically appears at the top and often contains the website’s logo, navigation menu, and key information like the site’s name or a search bar.

Navigation Menu

  • The navigation menu of a webpage provides links to the main sections or pages of the site, allowing users to easily explore and access different areas of content.

Main Content Area or Body

  • The main content or body of a webpage is where the primary information is presented, including text, images, videos, and links, tailored to the page’s specific topic or purpose.

Sidebars

  • Sidebars often contain additional resources, related links, or contact information.

Footer

  • The footer is typically at the bottom of the page and may include contact information, legal disclaimers, or links to privacy policies.
