The information on the following tabs of this guide will help you identify keywords for your topic, find and evaluate different types of sources, and cite your sources.

For additional help using library resources, explore the library's Library Research Skills guides.

For writing help, see the Taft College Learning Center for tutoring appointments.

Research Project

The research paper topic will be inspired by a topic you find interesting from Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster. The broad topics must be narrowed to a question to explore and answer related to the themes and setting of the creative nonfiction work of Jon Krakauer.

  • Write a 6 - 8 page research paper
  • Use MLA 9th ed. style guide for in-text and Works Cited references
  • Use a minimum of five (5) Taft College library sources.
  • You must use a variety of source types with at least three of the following categories: books, magazines, newspapers, scholarly articles, and government publications
  • Include an annotated bibliography for the five (5) library resources
  • Valid and reliable sources from other libraries or Google Scholar are accepted as additional sources

Format the paper according to MLA Handbook, 9th ed., including Times New Roman or Ariel font, size 12, Double-spaced, and 1" margins all around. See the MLA 9th ed. tab on this guide for details on formatting your in-text citations and Works Cited page. Refer to the Annotated Bibliography tab for examples of a short and long annotation.

Check out the Types of Sources guide for more details about primary and secondary sources.
