This study explored medical doctors' clinical assessment of suicide risk and suicide attempters' self-reported suicide intent. Three years of archival assessment records related to suicide attempters who were admitted to the emergency department of a large teaching hospital in Singapore were subjected to analysis.

Overall, suicide rates vary among the sexes and across lifetimes, whereas methods differ according to countries.
