Choose one of two capstone projects:

Project #1

Project #1 is a research paper comparing the juvenile and adult court systems.

Address the following questions:

Briefly describe the history of juvenile courts
Describe a minimum of three laws that have shaped the juvenile justice system and rights of juveniles.
Describe the benefits of having a distinct juvenile justice system.
Describe the criticisms of having a distinct juvenile justice system.
Analyze and evaluate the impact of the three laws that you described

Minimum of three (3) scholarly sources are required: Books, eBooks, and/or journal articles.

Cover Page & Reference Page
Three to five pages, excluding the cover page and the reference page
No direct quotations are permitted. Use summary or paraphrase to make your points

Project #2 requires that you select a juvenile case that has been commuted and re-sentenced.

Address the following questions:

Description of the juvenile lifer's background (e.g. describe offenders childhood)
Brief description of the offense committed
Description of the juvenile lifer's initial sentence and what their new sentence was following the re-sentencing/parole hearing
Provide an analysis detailing why you believe the juvenile lifer received the new sentence following the re-sentencing/parole hearing.
