A guide to using the OneSearch Discovery library catalog

Locating Print Course Reserve Textbooks

Most of your courses at Taft College will require textbooks and we at the Library provide access to many of them in our Course Reserves collection. Course Reserves are books you may borrow and read in the library. Here you will find the steps needed to locate your textbook(s) in our catalog, OneSearch.

First, begin at the catalog homepage and select the tab at the top for Course Reserves:

From here you can search for your textbook title, your subject, course name or code, or even your instructor's last name:

From the results page, there are a few options to narrow your search and find your textbook. Use the filters to select the course instructor, code or name if you can. Or, browse the list of results which show the textbook and the course. Select one to learn more about the book:

Here you will see detailed information about the book (title, author, date of publication) as well as the location and availability of the book and the course name and instructor linked to the book. Now, repeat these steps for any remaining textbooks you need to locate and borrow.

Locating Digital Course Reserve Textbooks

Using the same steps, you can find many of the open resource (free) textbooks that some instructors assign for their courses. If you have one of these online textbooks the Library may provide access to it via the catalog just like our other resources. Simply repeat the same search steps as above, beginning with the Course Reserve search tab. An online textbook record will look very similar to a print book record but with a couple key differences:

To access this digital resource, simply click View Full Text and the book will open in a new browser window.
