Library Research - The Process: Find Books

About the Library Catalog

  • The online catalog contains the records of all the items located in the Taft College Library.
  • The default search is Taft College Library but you can also search "Libraries Worldwide"
  • You can search by word or phrase, author, title or subject.
  • Renew books, check due dates, and review overdue fines by using My Library Account (requires your student ID or library card barcode number).
  • Search the "Reserve Desk" to locate materials by instructor, course number or course name. Reserve materials are located at the library service desk and are usually available for in-library use only. Your student ID is required to use Reserve items.

How to Search the Catalog

On the Library's home page, type the keyword or phrase of your topic into the box.  You do not want to type your whole research question here; rather, you want to type in the subject you want to know more about.  For example, if you are writing a paper about how the Affordable Care Act (Obama care) is helping low-income families deal with rising medical costs in the United States, all you need to type in the box is affordable care act.

Click the magnifying glass or hit enter and you will be taken to the results page:

From here you can browse the collection of print and electronic books on your topic.  Go to our How to Read eBooks page for more information on how to view an eBook.  If you find a book in print, you will need to find it in the library.  Please see our What is a call number page for assistance with locating books in the library.
